San Marino

I den østlige delen av fjellkjeden Appenninene på Appenninerhalvøya, midt i Italia finner man den lille sjarmerende republikken San Marino. San Marino med sitt beskjedne folketall, 32,629 (registrert i februar 2014) er faktisk verdens eldste republikk og har en historie som strekker seg tilbake til år 301. e.Kr. San Marino by, Città di San Marino, ligger ved foten av Monte Titano, og det er oppe på toppen her man finner de største turist attraksjonene.

/In the North-East part of the Appennine Mountains you find the small, charming Republic of San Marino. San Marino with its inhabitants of about 32,629 (statistics from February 2014) claims to be the oldest surviving sovereign and  constitutional republic in the world, as their history goes all the way back to year 301.The capital, Città di San Marino is located at the foot of Monte Titano, and it is on the top here you have all the tourist attractions./

Etter å ha kjørt den bratte veien opp fjellet og kommet til de kjente 3 tårnene, som også er i Riksvåpenet, kan man nyte den fantastiske utsikten over fjell og daler i Italia og San Marinos landskap. Utsikten er enestående og man kan jo undre seg hvordan det er å bo her oppe. Vi la også fort merke til at det er veldig populært å sykle det bratte fjellet opp til toppen.

/After you have driven the steep road up to the top, where you find the 3 towers of San Marino you can enjoy the fabulous view over San Marino and Italy. It is absolutely breathtaking and you start to wonder how it would feel like to live up here. We also noticed on your way up that it is very popular to cycle the long way up this mountain./

Men det er ikke før man går igjennom byporten man ser hvor spesielt San Marino egentlig er. Da dukker det umiddelbart opp flotte gamle bygninger i små, trange og ikke minst bratte gågater. Man får fort en følelse av at her ligger det mye gammel historie og det er nesten som om man har prøvd å holde byen hemmelig. 

But it is not until you walk through the city gate you see how special San Marino really is. Instantly you see old castles and buildings in small, narrow and steep streets. Straight away after passing through the city wall I got the feeling that this place has some old history and it almost felt like a secret place./

Etter å ha gått ett lite stykke oppover disse sjarmerende smale gatene, kommer man til Palazzo Pubblico (Regjeringpalasset) midt på Piazza della Libertà. Forran denne flotte bygningen fra 1894 kan man vitne til vaktskifte av Republikkens garde som bærer de farge fulle uniformene med den utpregede hodepryden. Dette foregår ved faste tide i sommer halvåret. 

/After walking a little bit up the narrow streets you will reach Piazza della Libertà and Palazzo Pubblico, which is the government building from 1894. Outside the building on the piazza you can witness the Change of Guards, which is a sight it self because of the colourful uniforms and the significant headpiece. During the summer months this happens at set times./  

 

Klatrer man videre oppover disse bratte gågatene kommer man til Garibaldi minne merket, Cassa di Risparmio og Basilica di San Marino. Basilica di San Marino er en kirke og det er faktisk den første kirken som ble bygd i SanMarino og stod ferdig i 1838.

/If you continue walking up these steeps streets you will reach the Garbaldi statue, Cassa di Risparmio and Basilica di San Marino. Basilica di San Marino is a church and it was actually the first on built in San Marino, it was finished in 1838./ 

Når man har kommet til kirken Basilica di San Marino er man ikke langt fra selve toppen av dette fjellet med den lille byen, og det er her man finner den mest spektakulære utsikten i hele San Marino ja hvis ikke i hele Italia. Dette er kanskje høydepunktet for mange, men ikke de med høydeskrekk. Prima Torre Guaita fra 1000-tallet er San Marinos eldste festningstårn og her finnes det flere utkikkspunkter rett over den stup bratte fjellsiden. Her får man virkelig sett hele San Marino.

/When you reach the church Bastilica di San Marino you are almost at the top of this mountain with the little charming city, and this is where you find the most spectacular view. I would dare to say that this might the highlight for most people who visit San Marino, but for those with a fear of heights it definitely might not be. You have reached Prima Torre Guaita, the oldest fortress Tower in San Marino./

San Marino er også kjent for sine mange suvenir butikker som det er flust av, og vi fant til og med Systembolaget. Men jeg må si med en gang at det er veldig billig i San Marino og det absolutt verdt å ta en titt i butikkene og se om det er noe som frister for prisene her så mye bedre enn i Italia.

/San Marino is also known for its many souvenir shops and I must be honest and say that id you do find something you like buy it, it is a lot cheaper here than other places. It is not only tacky souvenirs they have either, a lot of nice handbags, jewellery, some clothes, local wine and beer and a lot of other stuff./
