San Marino

I den østlige delen av fjellkjeden Appenninene på Appenninerhalvøya, midt i Italia finner man den lille sjarmerende republikken San Marino. San Marino med sitt beskjedne folketall, 32,629 (registrert i februar 2014) er faktisk verdens eldste republikk og har en historie som strekker seg tilbake til år 301. e.Kr. San Marino by, Città di San Marino, ligger ved foten av Monte Titano, og det er oppe på toppen her man finner de største turist attraksjonene.

/In the North-East part of the Appennine Mountains you find the small, charming Republic of San Marino. San Marino with its inhabitants of about 32,629 (statistics from February 2014) claims to be the oldest surviving sovereign and  constitutional republic in the world, as their history goes all the way back to year 301.The capital, Città di San Marino is located at the foot of Monte Titano, and it is on the top here you have all the tourist attractions./

Pisa

På vår lille reise i Italia så måtte vi jo så klart ta turen innom Pisa da vi allerede hadde innlosjert oss 5 netter i Lucca og Pisa bare er en halvtimes kjøring derfra. Må jo innrømme med en gang at formålet vårt med Pisa var egentlig bare å se det skjeve tårnet, ja litt sånn som alle andre turister. 

/On out little trip in Italy we had to stop by Pisa one day just to see the Leaning tower. We had booked ourself in at Lucca for 5 nights and we wanted to see a little more and Pisa is only about  30 minutes drive from Lucca. A great day activity if you ask me. I must admit though that we only went to see this leaning tower and nothing else./   

Rimini, Italy

På østsiden av Italia, langs kyststripen til Adriaterhavet finner man turist byen Rimini. Her myldrer det at sommer turister fra mange forskjellige land i Europa, ja sikker noen fra andre steder i verden også som for eksempel Russland. Det var i grunnen ganske mange russere og andre Øst-Europeere her og kanskje ikke det mest populære stede for skandinaver selv om vi hørte noen. 

/On the East side of Italy, along the Adriatic Sea, you find the city of Rimini. The city is full of tourist from different countries, mostly in Europe and especially Eastern Europe and a good few people from Russia, however not that many from Scandinavia./ 

Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf weekend, shopping, dining, sightseeing. This German city with all its sits, architecture, the river Rhine, locals and tourist mingling together in a city that had a lot more to offer than what I thought. 

Düsseldorf bars and restaurants

Düsseldorf has a lot to offer and bars and restaurants is definitely one of them. As you can see from the picture further down even dogs have their own little "bar" outside some restaurants. But again I have heard that Germany in general are very dog friendly. Anyway I was amazed about the great nightlife there and the atmosphere.

Shopping in Düsseldorf

I can say this straight away that Düsseldorf is just great for shopping. First of all Düsseldorf is not a huge city so you can easily walk around from place to place which again means that if you can't carry all your stuff you can probably just drop them off at our hotel and walk back out to do more shopping.

Storbyferie i Europa - Brussel

Brussel er en av mine favoritt byer i Europa og jeg har vært her flere ganger. Det er noe helt spesielt med atmosfæren der synes jeg. Å gå igjennom de små trange gatene og titte på alle restaurantene, hilse på de som ivrig prøver å få deg til å spise hos akkurat de. Lukte den spesielle lukten av Escargot (snegler) som lages i store gryter midt på gata eller de nydelige belgiske vaflene som stekes på hvert eneste hjørne. Ikke minst det faktum at Belgia er et av de landene i verden med flest typer øl, over 450 forskjellige har jeg hørt. Og glem ikke at nesten hvert eneste merke har sitt eget glass som er obligatorisk å drikke av når du kjøper en øl på en bar eller restaurant. Tenk at "lille" Belgia faktisk har ca 180 bryggerier, alt fra de store kjente til små mikrobryggerier. Bare å sette seg ned å smake på ølet er en opplevelse i seg selv. 

Flashpacker vs. Backpacker

Jeg sitter å leser dagens nettutgave av Aftenposten og som vanlig så er jeg jo innom Aftenposten Reise (samt alle andre reise sider og artikler man finner i alle andre aviser), slik som jeg pleier. Kom over en særdeles interessante artikkel her om å være en flashpacker.

Norwegian National Day!

17th of May and Norwegian National Day or Constitution day as it is. This year it is very special as we celebrate 200 years of our own Constitution. For all Norwegians this is a very special day and we dress up in our national costume, walk in parades and say congratulations on your day ( that is the equivalent of happy birthday).
